The workshop aims to provide participants with necessary skills to successfully and
engagingly present scientific papers at conferences and to confidently defend results
during discussions.

Throughout the two-day workshop, participants will be guided through practical exercises
to improve their non-verbal and verbal communication, their ability to formulate precisely,
to listen and answer difficult questions generously, in order to become excellent speakers.
Attention will be given to breath and speech patterns of the participants, to strengthen
both their ease and clarity as speakers. Participants will receive individual feedback on the
effectiveness of their presentation skills using videorecording.

Aims and topics:
• Preparing a talk and discussion in English
• Practicing and perfecting public speaking
• Concisely and professionally introducing and promoting oneself
• Involving the audience in one’s talk
• Improving verbal and non-verbal communication

This workshop is offered jointly by KCDS and Karlsruhe School of Quantum Matter (KSQM) and is open to members of both graduate schools as well as other doctoral researchers at KIT.
